A Case Study

Michigan Creative was hired to transform the Office of Enrollment Management’s (OEM) Detroit Center Admissions Office into a bright, modern and welcoming space where students not only complete enrollment processes but also want to hang out, seek information, and engage with the U-M community.

Bringing Go Blue! Spirit to Detroit

Michigan Creative designed, produced and worked with the U-M Sign Shop to install 22 pieces that included wall/window grapics and framed prints for the following areas:

  • Office Exterior
  • Welcome/Front Desk Area
  • Open Meeting Area (Zoom Room)
  • Selfie Wall
  • Conference Room
  • Office Windows

Challenge

The Office of Enrollment Management’s (OEM) Detroit Center Admissions Office was not well-marked or well-branded and the decor was generic and dated. Nothing in the current space was inspiring “Go Blue!” excitement. Students were only visiting the current office for administrative reasons. It was perceived as a place merely to complete transactions not as a space for ongoing engagement and support. OEM wanted to change this by revamping the look and feel of the office.

Outcome

The new office provides a welcoming space where students can build connections and feel a sense of belonging to the U-M community. The new environmental signage highlights U-M’s values of inclusivity and community as well as communicates our pride and roots in the city of Detroit. Students can now see the enrollment office as a hub of activity and a place where they would want to hang out, engage with peers, and access resources.

"Michigan Creative and the U-M Sign Shop did a wonderful job of helping us bring some Maize and Blue spirit into the Detroit undergraduate admissions office. The office hosts prospective students and families throughout the year for events and appointments, so it is important that it represents the university well. The new environmental graphics, selfie wall, and campus photography help showcase the University of Michigan to students and families that may not have had a chance to visit campus."
